today i went to the pond where there are ducks and frogs. the 1st photo is how it looked today before a very rainy spring, the grass is so tall it's hard to even see the pond!

the 2nd photo is how it looked in march before all of the summer growth kicked in. woof! i got home and drank water and stared at the freezer! i wonder why! frozen mini bagels are my favorite snack before walks, after walks, all day, all night. frozen bagels are best when buried and eaten at 2am in the backyard! arf! i think i was on the 'dirt list' for doing that! hee hee hee steph had to bribe me with cheese to come back inside. i'm a smart god! woof! have a nice day!

here i am on the muddy path by the 'claw' car. i just spotted a golden retriever coming down the trail and was so excited to do a greet and meet, and the dog owner just kept on going! bark! steph asked if it was flooded ahead and the person just kept going! bark! so we proceeded ahead and yep it was flooded and muddy, had to walk along the edge! we also walked up further to check on the trillium and it's just beginning to turn light pink. when i got home i checked out the backyard woods and i just had to chomp on a dried old fern stem! woof! woof! hugs to my manly dog pack leader! arf arf!! :) woof woof

VENT:

2nd time in a well-marked with flashing lights crosswalk in a 25mph neighborhood i almost get ran over with the dog! one person was stopped and I was again, in the middle of the crosswalk when the oncoming vehicle driver ON A CELL PHONE sped through the crosswalk and past my legs. i could not refrain from yelling F***R! wtf! slow down and pay attention to crosswalks!! damn idiots!

here i am woof! sitting in the woods on wednesday. just sitting here comtemplating life for about 20 minutes. i eventually stopped squinting my eyes and did something else. this morning the walk was in the rain and wind and i got to meet a little little dog with a rain jacket on, i swear that always intrigues me why little dogs wear coats! arf! when i saw the dog i pulled hard on the leash while steph was walking down a wet slippery slope and she nearly slid to meet the dog heh heh heh i'm a bad good dog. woof! then stopped at the water frog pond, checked on the trillium which is still there and still white in color, then to the frog pond on the other side, lots of walking. steph said the raindrops on the water looked like sparkling stars, it was so pretty woof woof!! when we got home, the sun came out!! now i'm sleeping on the floor next to a white lacrosse ball i found at the park and carried in my mouth! arf arf!! it's totally unchewable!

this morning the sky was clear and sunny and about 45 degrees on the walk. i went straight up and over that switch back hill to the other side almost to starbucks plaza! arf! i wonder if she will buy me a scone if she ever goes there? then we came home and this was stopping to admire the old burned out car area on the path, we went on this path 2 times! i helped put the trashcans away and cleaned up spilled garbage. well i watched! arf arf arf now i'm totally into naptime on the floor dreaming of doggie biscuits and bagels.

this is the old picnic table where his goal is only known to him via the furious and fast digging. this happens after a run up and down the path and then he hops underneath this, and in his youth could clear the exit pretty slick, now, heh. so this was tuesday evening's photo. tonight, it's raining and he decided my "new" intervention trash can by the comp desk is the place to get into trouble. i've had to fold over the little plastic bag liner in it, because he grabs tissues and runs off. yesterday, there i was standing at the stop sign holding the leash with all of my might waiting for cars to pass and the road to be clear and he finds garbage, a napkin from someone's junk food trash, and suddenly has to stand at the roadside and shred the napkin, unknown to him at the time the road was clear to cross. lol

running with him is pretty much a requirement, though today i think he was a little worn out after i lead the way running! woof! when i got back to the road to go back home, drenched from the rain...he waited patiently to cross, and i petted him on the head and told him "thank you for the walk". i meant it too.

there's the official "i dig therefore i exist" photo. he has ran loops all over the yard and into the woods and this is always part of his routine, to dig like a mad dog under this old table. you can see the pit underneath him and he rips the dirt up wildly, then leaps out the other side of the table.

sitting all pretty next to me on my bench in the woods. he was demanding serious pets this morning, the sun was out and the red robins were everywhere in the brush.

then, after all that speeding around and crazyness he grabs this stick, he is silly, will grab 12 feet long sticks and drag them around.

now, it's evening and koda is relaxing on the patio after eating his kibbles and having his evening walk. arf! no one gives a belly rub like my buddy he says! i gave him a 'costco' hotdog bun, frozen, so he pretended to want to rip my arm off and is now in protecting his favorite treat besides bagels outside woof woof hugs and woofs and more hugs and woofs!

yesterday, i traveled for over an hour in the car to visit my buddy in the hospital! i leaned my head out of the window smelling the air, and i was excited to find out when i got there who i was going to see! i waited in the parking lot with the number one dog pack "top dog" then, there she was! walking toward me with the top mama dog. i was happy to see my buddy. we walked on nice sunny afternoon across the street to the biggest dog park ive ever been. it was a great day, having my pack together. i heard them saying i was impressive, and that they were proud of me. woof woof!

well my dear dog buddy, life has been good at the dog park for you. you have learned to become social with other dogs. at 5 years old that is a big deal, especially for you the one who i brought home because your dog pack pal was having a psychotic break and needed you more than you will ever know. you ended up being my lifeline, dear buddy.

you went to the psych hospital in 2007 and today i went there without you and we went to the dog park afterward.

after peeing on the hose, i wandered out to the entry of the woods and sat like a statue. steph was trying to go to the market and wanted to bring me in the house. i know these things, so after she took this pic, i laid down flat and wasn't going to budge. steph had just put clean bedding on the bed. she had no idea i was planning my next move from the woods. she went into the house and i barked to come inside. running past her, i went straight for the bed, pine needles, dirt and tree sap all on the bed, and then when she found me i made sure to use my manly growl voice to tell her who's boss of the bed. sammy the cat was not impressed with me interrupting her nap time. ah, another day in the life of koda!

Yes, I am 5 years old today. but Unlike Steph that human I look out for constantly, I have not received my Doggy AARP card in the mail.

Yes, I maybe 5 years old, but as a wise manly buddy of mine always says; "I am perpetually a 2 year old" in behavioral attributes and style.

i have a habit of eating plants and flowers that people admire. if anyone looks at a plant or flower, including ferns and branches of trees within my reach, i will chew them and rip them apart. so this is how you grow a geranium with me in the yard. woof! i'm rotten!

*yes koda, that wire fencing looks ridiculous just to guard one flower!

STUFFED FRENCH TOAST STRATA

1 pound of French bread
8 ounce package cream cheese, cubed
8 eggs
2 1/2 cups milk, cream or half and half.
6 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Cut French bread loaf into cubes (About 12 cups bread cubes)

Grease a 13x9 inch baking pan.

To Assemble: In the prepared pan place half of the bread cubes.

Top with the cream cheese cubes and then the remaining bread cubes.

With a blender or mixing bowl with a rotary beater, mix together the eggs, milk, melted butter, maple syrup and cinnamon until well combined. Pour the egg mixture evenly over bread and cheese cubes. Using a spatula, slightly press layers down to moisten.

Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 to 24 hours.

Remove plastic wrap and bake in a 325 degree oven for 40-45 minutes or until the center appears to be set and the eggs are golden.

Let stand for 10 minutes.

Makes 6-8 servings.

Note: May add blueberries after the cream cheese and serve with blueberry syrup.

Neo the husky has been found!

On Thursday, Cathy Crowder and her friends Dana and Ellen Love, all of Layton, joined forces with another dog lover, Parry Nielsen of Ogden.

Crowder put the impromptu team together after calling Perry to ask how she could help. She said Thursday night they'd been planning to search on Friday - her father had even volunteered to search by plane - but Nielsen called her Thursday morning to say he just couldn't wait.

He arrived first and started going door to door, talking to ranchers and farmworkers, making sure they knew the story of Neo and asking if anyone had seen the dog.

As Perry tells the story, as Nielsen drove nearby roads, a farmworker from a ranch he'd already canvassed waved him down. The worker had gone into a shed to get some wire, found a husky inside who growled at him and backed out quickly, latching the door.

The dog "is in fantastic condition," Crowder reported. "A little bit thin, a little dehydrated. But his pads aren't very worn at all, he really weathered well.

"Very resilient, very sweet-tempered."

BOISE, Idaho — A Siberian husky that survived a car crash that killed its owner could be making a 700-mile trek home through Idaho and Oregon.
Deborah Moore of Kelso, says the dog named Neo was last seen on Wednesday in Idaho headed toward Boise and is likely traveling cross country on his way to Washington state.
Moore's sister, 47-year-old Joyce Moore of Kelso, was killed when police say she lost control of her car on Interstate 84 and crashed near Snowville, Utah, on April 4.
Officials say Neo stayed at his owner's side but ran off when an ambulance arrived.
Deborah Moore says Neo is a friendly dog and is likely wearing a blue collar and possibly a black harness.

hello dog ,cat and people buddies from around the world! i've been walking every day in hail, snow and rain and today it was sunny! i met horses, deer and other dogs and got to watch ducks at the lake dock. woof woof! oh yeah, and one of these photos is of steph walking on the lake trail!

and of course i brought a bagel with me! it was about a 4 mile walk and it started to snow on the way back, and now there's a few inches of snow at home tonight. this was a walk i had to drive to, and the view of the mountains is on stephany's blog .

they get to give me belly rubs. i get these kibbles. they get 24/7 devotion from a pet. i get these kibbles. they get protected on long walks in the woods by having a manly husky dog with them. i get these kibbles. they get woken up at midnight, 2am, 3 am, 4 am by me just to make sure they are ok. i get these kibbles. i keep track of sammy's catnip stash. i get these kibbles. i drag stephany on the leash to help her increase upper body strength. i get these kibbles. i get them out of the house and social. i get these kibbles. and they have the nerve to make sure they are all vitaminized, lean, organic and "good for me". so what do they do? they fix it all up with bacon and eggs from their morning breakfast. do i get the entire strip of bacon? they do. this is not right! all dog and cat buddies, do you think this is fair and just treatment for all i do for them? and what are those ridiculous dog and kitty pajamas stephany is wearing anyway? what is she trying to be a representative of the humane society? give me some junk food! first, they torture me by making me watch them mix kibbles on the bacon plate. I think i was going to get the plate. nope, they make me eat out of my bowl. yesterday i even tried to help do chores by removing garbage from the trashcan. what's wrong with a dog eating butter wrappers? or pieces of blueberry muffins? can i help it if stephany took the muffins out of the oven too soon? they tasted fine to me! what's a little uncooked batter? now if they would just listen to me, i'd have them in the backyard all morning guarding my yellow ball with me. woof! oh, and yes that is furious seasons blog in the background.dogs have to be informed too!

dear dog, cat and people buddies,

what a great 90 minute walk i had today! so many dog friends and one horse was being walked and it looked like a big dog, it went right past me on the path. on the lake dock there were ducks, geese and an eagle flew over head to its fir tree nest. then on the way back i was dragging stephany up a hill and something moved in the bushes. it was a deer! woof!

i've been going on 60-90 minute walks and no one has taken any doggie photos! i hope they do tomorrow so i can update my blog! arf!

so far i've met lots of other dogs, been in the woods, on trails, seen lakes and today the ducks were on the lake again, and we walked in muddy trails where there was horse hoof prints, but i didn't see the horse.

i have been loving the snow! i go on long walks and get to meet other dogs and people. i got an enormous chew stick for christmas, stole candy from a stocking, and think life is great!

saturday the turkey was baking and we drove to the grocery store to buy flowers for the table and when we entered my street here is what we saw--a mom deer and her twins! this is a zoomed in photo so it's not that great...they were walking into my driveway then changed direction, and that is when we saw the baby deer leading the way had crippled back legs. there are guardian angels for animals aren't there? oh , i wanted to hug it.

this was koda in the morning yesterday while the turkey was baking for early thanksgiving dinner. yes he got tastes of turkey and string beans dipped in gravy!; dogs eat anything! koda now barks at the kitchen counter where a loaf of bread is sitting, i think he believes ALL leftovers are HIS.

the chair incident. note to self: when talking to someone and telling a story explaining how you were reading a magazine and leaned back in the chair as part of the animated story telling, "i leaned back in the chair like this"....the patio chair did not recline. it's was my favorite star-gazing chair, it's where i've sat for years looking at the sky hoping and dreaming. the back completely snapped! off and the next thing i knew i was flat on my back, my butt still on the damn chair wedged(and see those sharp points where the chair back snapped off? ouch) i was laughing so bad all i could do was lay there laughing hysterically. looking like an idiot. i'm sure koda wondered what the hmm i was doing. there's my favorite coffee cup on the table. this chair is now an art object titled "not a recliner" or "new age computer chair" or "junk art".-november 08
